Our story begins in 2001 following Pam’s return to living in the U.S. after a few years in Hong Kong.  While living abroad, Pam developed an interest in starting her own import business, and after settling in Wilton, CT, she began a series of buying trips to Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Bali to purchase women’s accessories. She invited Martha on her second trip and they developed a great partnership from then on, bringing back jewelry, accessories like scarves and handbags, table linens, decorative housewares and hand-painted kites. We sold our treasures at home shows, private charity fundraising events, and upscale retirement communities.

While sourcing all these items in the markets and international trade shows throughout Southeast Asia, we found ourselves drifting into the areas that carried beads….we were enthralled, but had no plan; we just kept collecting what we loved! Gradually the wear and tear of traveling New England in our Ford 150 van guided us toward focusing exclusively on jewelry and designing our own line. The beads proved an enhancement to our design work with Balinese silversmiths and suppliers in Asia.  Beads began to predominate in the design process and gradually, we thought: we love to design and we love to bead and we have fantastic sources – let’s open a store to share our passion!

Sugarbeads was born in 2007, and our store is now the largest collection of beads, findings, and supplies in the state of Connecticut.  Our goal is simple: to offer outstanding customer service and unsurpassed selection.
